  1. @Chris: while I do agree that Uservoice is not the optimal venue for reporting outages, you have to agree that even creating a suggestion for a better way report those falls flat, when we can see that Amir isn't very active here.
His absence on Uservoice, this sudden outage, and the lack of updates on Todoist for many months get users concerned about trusting a service that could be stagnant.

  2. @otomo: Indeed, it does.
But as Mark said, it also shows up for all that it can be easily done to push some features up, and while anonymous voting can be turned off and this thread deleted (or marked as "completed feature"), I don't think that the anonymous votes will be removed from all suggestions, thus rendering the current voting useless.

  3. Oh, and my comment about Amir was just to point that he doesn't seem to be participating much here, and therefore is not be able to turn anonymous voting off. Which is a shame because now we have this thread polluting the list as number #1 item.

  4. I'm sorry, but you are very wrong in your idea, cause I'm not the one doing this.

Not that there is any way to prove this, of course. But I'm not the kind of idiot that would enfatically say this is wrong and anti-productive, and then do the very same thing just to push my opinion forward. That wouldn't be very clever.

Feel free to trust whoever you want.

  5. Jeez... I see updates mainly from the RSS feed, didn't notice that.

If that doesn't make the point here, I don't know what can. Problem is, Amir seems kinda MIA these days.

  6. As longs as it's not mandatory, do it away. But I prefer as it is now, no matter the size of the screen I'm using it.
From the point of view of a graphic designer, text lines shouldn't be too long, or it makes harder to read.

  7. Like this feature...
    http://todoist.uservoice.com/pages/general/suggestions/6060
... which all comments suggest people agree is not needed, but still is second most voted based on more than three hundred anonymous votes.

  8. I liked the idea of having (very) limited votes here on Uservoice, because it makes people think more about the value of each feature. You cannot spent votes on each off-track proposal, or you won't be able to vote for the ones you really need.
Anonymous voting removes that limitation, and makes the "order by most votes" almost useless.

  9. @chris: while you do have a point, we also know for a fact that it only takes about 20 seconds to register on this site, it's probably the easiest registration I have ever seen.
If someone cannot take the time to do that, how can we believe they are actually taking time to read and think about the necessity and value of the features proposed here, and weighting what's more important?

  10. The concept seems solid to me. I would be a great improvement to the current system. It gets my thumb's up (and my vote as soon as I free one).
You should really try to mock it up to help others to visualize how it would work.

  11. I agree (tho I have no votes left).
It defeats the purpose of using checkbox-less tasks to group tasks together, when the parent cannot be seen with queries.

  12. Chris: It does, no doubt. I don't think that changing those codes is a necessity, but sometimes I do wish they were closer to more common standards. Like I said, my favorite is wiki codes (note that those are not the ones from Wikipedia; they use ""italic"" and """bold""", I believe), because it's the simplest, easiest for a newbie to remember. But that's a personal preference.

  13. Personally I would prefer wiki-like codes, like *bold* or _italic_ (less characters to type) but I agree the current codes are a little confusing and hard to memorize. However, I hardly ever type them since I can just press Ctrl-B or Ctrl-I to insert the codes.

  14. I also don't use priorities much because I don't think they help much at organizing my tasks.
Adding to Paul's suggestions (all very good to me), specifically his last one, I think "negative" levels are necessary. Today we have a "normal" level (4) and three higher ones (3 to 1). Many times is useful to have lower priority than normal, so levels 5 to 7 would be a good addition.

  15. I think that would broaden the focus of Todoist quite a lot more than it should.
The service is good because it's simple and good at solving one problem: to-do lists. Calendar management is not its focus, and it shouldn't be. With Google Calendar and iCal integration, both features planned, you can solve this problem with better, more specific tools.

  16. ... and Ctrl-Enter do enter a new task before. So that's actually very easy.

  17. @ ashyanbhog: That would only solve the sharing of due dates for dated tasks. For me, the most important is being able to track what tasks are not complete, even those without due dates. You wouldn't get that info with shared calendars.

  18. I must agree with Chris. The beauty of Todoist is in its simplicity and speed. We should focus on features that will enable us to do things we cannot today.
The tag system already makes possible to create not only this third dimension, but as many dimensions as you wish. So I don't believe is necessary.

  19. Err... what?

  20. The point is, with offline suport, you can get the functionality you desire through the use of Firefox Prism or Bubbles (http://www.3d3r.com/bubbles/), assuming you can use Google Gears with both. If an Air app is simple to make and you can make it work with Gears, that would be a nice solution, but I believe someone can make that without needing to wait for Amir to do it.

  21. @amix: great to hear Calendar and iCal are on the pipe. You might want to check the "iCal Integration" suggestion here on Uservoice as Planned too, just to make things clear.
Thanks a lot for opening this channel with us. ;)

  22. Have you tried the "overdue" query? I believe that's what you're looking for.

  23. It's not really a bad idea, but at least for me it's somewhat unnecessary since you can get the same functionality using tags. That does require typing, but it's really fast, and you can define your own stages as needed (I frequently use "waiting" when I need something from another person to complete a task).

  24. A technical question: is it possible to use Gears, but sync automatically, instead of clicking a "Go Offline" button or something? I always thought clicking and waiting for sync was too much a hassle, and I never remember to do it.
If Todoist could do it hands-free, then I think it would be a good feature.

  25. I thinks iCal integration is better (and simpler) then this, since it would be usable by more calendar software and websites (therefore better use of developer time), and would keep actual task management on Todoist, instead of having the same functions on both websites.
I tried RTM with Calendar, and thought it just made it more complex to manage my tasks.

  26. Also, you could maybe create a new format (like "@" for tags and "!" for priority), to delegate tasks for specific users. Nothing fancy, just a way to see what tasks belong to you specifically, if you want. As Oxiris said, Todoist could set that to your name when you create the task, or you can set to others.
Or we can just use common tags for that as well.

  27. I think that probably the simplest way to do this would be similar to how Google Docs or Google Notebook work. You just chose to share with some users a single project (or project group), and they see all the tasks just like a local project. Maybe ordering could be kept as a local parameter to allow each user to chose how to see the tasks.

  28. Only to explain better, I use project groups as my contexts (as on the GTD methodology), so it would help me if I could see projects from different contexts separately from each other, so when I'm at work, I don't need/want to see my personal projects.

  29. I think one option could be to have untimed items show at the end of the list as "Someday" or something like that. To get that result, you should have a new query that added those results to the timed query, like the "overdue" query does.
That way I wouldn't need a "3 days, viewall" query that shows timed items twice.

  30. You can already set you own default view, by going to the Preferences and selecting another Start Page, or creating you own query (for All Projects, just use "va", without quotes). Personally I use the query "3 days, overdue, va".

I do however agree that there should be a direct link for View All Projects, like the already present "today, 7 days" links.
