i actually prefer it in the FF sidebar, as opposed to actually on the gmail page myself - especially if you're going to need a FF plugin either way.
my reason is one that not everyone may share - i use todoist to manage my tasks at work, and gmail is my PERSONAL e-mail system...so i want to be able to have my task list visible, without displaying my personal e-mail at work.
My problem with RTM's Gmail plugin is that it interfered with my Gmail too much. I didn't like it taking up so much space. I'd rather have something on the sidebar where Gchat is or perhaps along the bottom. Thanks!
I too like to see tasks next to me email. I use RTM myself, thoguh I love simplicity of Todoist. I actually prefer loading the RTM Google Gadget, which has more functionality when adding a task, than the FFplugin, in my Firefox sidebar.
another vote here - and what sold me was the screenshot of the RTM plugin. To be able to see my Todoist task list on the same screen as my gmail - it's like having peanut butter and jelly - a perfect combo.

The RTM GMail plugin is cool, but I think it goes against the todoist approach of being very simple. I like the existing GMail integration which keeps todoist away from the busy GMail interface.

It's not important to understand how RTM works, I prefer the simplicity of Todoist. This plugin can work like the iGoogle gadget inside the Gmail.
