being able to backup/export is the freedom of using and saving data anywhere else outside todoist.
It is a great relief for a user to know that he can view his data in other formats : csv, indented text, xml, html ...
The more I use this program, and hence the more dependent I become on it, the more scared I am that it could all be lost. A back-up feature would be HUGE!
I would love to see this implemented. Honestly I'd like to see both a plaintext format and an XML format. Have the text format oriented towards reading on-screen and printing, and then a formalized XML format to support backup and restore. It could even provide a basic ability for offline access.
Exactly !
I think one of us - developers, can do tool for backuping and OFFLINE working with ToDoIST, using todoist API. I belive idea of Google Gears is great.

Fear of losing data is a major drawback of todoist.
Major. The need is clear and obvious. Please vote for this.

i have to say we so much need this option - to backup or restore the items, especially if we're using it daily.

It seems to me if they will add offline then they would also add backup at the same time.

Todoist has been down a few times and it's annoying to have to recreate lists from memory. I may just look for a new system while it's still up.

Three things:- backup, backup and backup. Any file format is fine even a standard csv .

I second the XML/text export and import options.

it would be nice to automatically back it up every once in a while...
Or we would have to create a "back up todoist task" ;)

I could interest more friends in Todoist but - they are unwilling to make any investment in it without a backup means.

Yes, or XML etc etc. I know a third party app already does this but I don't trust giving my API key to third parties. :p
